Tutto. Perspektiven italienischer Kunst

19.09.2019 – 28.03.2020

Carla Accardi, Alighiero Boetti, Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Giorgio Ciam, Dadamaino, Lucio Fontana, Luigi Ghirri, Piero Manzoni, Plinio Martelli, Maurizio Nannucci, Giulio Paolini, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Salvatore Scarpitta, Mario Schifano u.a.

The exhibition, a collaboration between the Museion in Bolzano and the Sammlung Goetz in Munich, presents more than 120 works in a dialogue. As reactions to the artistic renewal of the post-war period, the pieces provide insight into important trends in Italian art between the 1950s and the 1980s.
Tutto, the title of the exhibition, was borrowed from Alighiero Boetti’s eponymous work from 1988. It is an iconic piece from the artist’s last series of embroideries, in which he united the principles of his artistic practice.
The central reference point of many of the exhibited artists was their conquering of the two-dimensional canvas, as exemplified by Lucio Fontana in his 1954 work Concetto Spaziale. Based on works of painting and photograph, the show explores various artistic approaches that combine the desire to expand the traditional panel painting and the opening up to other artistic genres.
The exhibition is supplemented by an extensive selection of documentary material from the archives of the participating artists. The variety of different mediums, such as photographs, posters, invitations, work notes and objects, results in a multifaceted and comprehensive picture.
A modified version of the exhibition was on view from October 2018 to March 2019 at the Museion in Bolzano. For its presentation in Munich, a third partner, the Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, was gained for the international collaboration. The traversing of boundaries in the art of the Italian post-war period manifests itself not only in artistic concepts, but also in design. The exhibition at the Sammlung Goetz in Oberföhring will be enriched by its inclusion of objects from the Neue Sammlung, while works from the Sammlung Goetz’s permanent collection will engage in a dialogue with design objects in the rooms of the Pinakothek der Moderne.
