#RAUMWANDELN: Zeit für Transformationen

Since three years the bunker at the Viktualienmarkt has been transformed by the events, installations and exhibitions of the Architekturgalerie München into a lively meeting point for the public discourse about building culture. At OPEN art 2019, the Swiss architectural firm Burckhardt+Partner will focus for the first time on structural interventions in and around the bunker building. Under the exhibition title TRANSFORMATIONS, the architects transform the hermetic building with real and illusionist views, a bar, dark beds and art. The font installation by the artist Christoph Brech on the façade with the letters U M W A N D E L N refers to the current transformation process inside the building. New entrances through the thick concrete walls and large-format photographs offer unexpected insights and outlooks. A kaleidoscope covering the entire wall presents selected works from Burckhardt + Partner’s nearly 70-year oeuvre. The silence of the bunker is acoustically broken by a sound installation by the composer Peter Ablinger. The percussionist Adam Weisman plays the composition Membrane, Regen, Weiss/Weisslich 31e with 8 glass tubes at the opening and at the OPEN Art weekend. Mushrooms are cultivated on an urban farming area on the ground floor of the bunker, supported by the ArchitekturKulturstiftung Munich.
